“Jesus stands trial before Pilate” Luke 22:66-23:25 Sunday, April 14, 2019 Pastor Greg Wilson 1. The Victim was foretold in the Old Testament  All these events took place during Passover  Exodus 12:27  1 Corinthians 5:7 2. The Venue kept changing  The Jewish trial before the Sanhedrin was on the charge of blasphemy  Deuteronomy 21:23  They wanted to shame Jesus, God wanted to exalt Him  John 11:49-53  The Roman trial before Pilate was on the charge of treason  John 19:12 3. The Verdict was rendered  Matthew 27:23 • Mark 15:14 • John 18:38, 19:6  The Roman authorities were guilty  The Jewish authorities were guilty  The only one not guilty was the one condemned to die 4. The Vicarious atonement is foreshadowed  Vicarious means “in the place of another”  Galatians 3:13 Application: The innocent Passover lamb died so that God’s people would not. God’s innocent lamb (Jesus) died so that God’s people would not. The innocent died for the guilty. You are guilty. Christ died for you.
